Costa Rica Vacations ‘White Cape’
The Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve is located in-between Cabuya and Mal Pais at the very southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. In 1963 the was the very first area in Costa Rica to be officially declared a national park.
The nature reserve is unique because it straddles the transitional area between the wet forests on the eastern half of the peninsula and the dry lands of the western side. This creates a wonderful blend of tropical evergreens, deciduous and dry-land trees; over 140 species!

Animals!
Like in most parts of Costa Rica, there are Howler and White-Face monkeys at the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve. One thing that is different though, is that here, they are in abundance and not at all shy. So, there is a good chance that you will get plenty of pictures of our smaller, furry counterparts.
Another animal that you are likely to see is the Costa Rican White Tailed deer! They are smaller version of the United State’s Virginia White Tailed deer and there are many of these dwarfed versions in the area.
Most people are drawn to the shores of the park, where the marine life and birds are in abundance. Who doesn’t like checking out large conch shells, crabs and mollusks of all sorts while Brown Bobbies and Pelicans fly over head!?
Nearby?
Just to the west is Mal Pais and just to the east is Cabuya and Montezuma! So after spending a day at the park, you can surf in Mal Pais or hit the savage waterfall hikes around Montezuma! As far as nature is concerned, Cabo Blanco is in the center of it all for your Costa Rica vacations!
You can take a 45 minute express boat across the Gulf of Nicoya to the Jaco area where there is world class nightlife and Playa Hermosa where you guessed it, there is AWESOME surf! So if you were already on the Guanacaste side, it is easy to get to Jaco and if your are doing Jaco tours, you can just as easily skip across the gulf to hit this nature reserve!
